We're Hiring: Great Salt Lake Policy Associate
O₂ Utah seeks a highly motivated and solutions-driven policy professional to join our team as a Great Salt Lake Policy Associate. This person will work to prevent the loss of the Great Salt Lake by enacting legislation (at the state and possibly the county and municipal levels) to raise lake levels, clean our state’s air, and prevent ecosystem collapse.
The policy associate will work closely with our policy and political teams to develop relationships with state legislators and municipal officials and pass our legislative agenda. This individual should have a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing the Great Salt Lake — the lake’s effects on air quality, meteorology, and ecosystems — and the political dynamics of Utah.
ABOUT O₂ UTAH:
O₂ Utah is a bi-partisan 501(c)(4) environmental nonprofit. Our mission is to clean our state’s air and eliminate our contributions to climate change through elections and policy. We focus on state and municipal legislative races and developing and passing bold environmental policies.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cultivate and manage relationships with state lawmakers, city councils, and mayors.

Help develop legislative proposals.

Track legislative proposals and trends at the state and municipal levels related to our mission.

Participate in our electoral efforts to begin building relationships with officials.

Coordinate with other staff members to maximize impact.
QUALIFICATIONS:

2 years of legislative or policy research experience at the state, municipal, or federal levels. Alternative to this is a J.D. or master's degree in environmental policy or equivalent.

The ability to work closely with both Democrats and Republicans on environmental issues.

Excellent interpersonal skills, time management, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Willingness to learn and think outside the box.

An attitude of “no one is too big for the job.” At O₂ Utah, everyone does the necessary work to make change, including electing candidates in both primary and general elections by making calls to voters and knocking doors, among other things.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary ranges between $50,000 and $55,000, based on experience. We also offer a health care stipend, a 2% IRA, and a generous hybrid work and vacation policy.
